THE ROTARY AUXILIARY HUB ENGINE for a bicycle
In this era of increasing environmental awareness and the frightening scenario of the 'peak oil' concept, any effort to lower the number of motor vehicles on the road must be seen as a positive step forward.
Rotary’s RH-01 INTERNALLY GEARED HUB ENGINE is more than just a '2-stroke motor bolted to a bicycle'. Rather, it's a complete design package that condenses all elements that make up a reliable & light weight LOW OUTPUT propulsion unit to power assist your bicycle. It is NOT a higher power 'off the shelf' product that's been restricted or governed to reduce its power.
This is achieved by taking an already proven design (German) and making improvements using modern technique's in small engine manufacture.
It is important to note the power OUTPUT of the motor is JUST UNDER 200 WATTS OUTPUT, as required to be still classified as a BICYCLE under the 'NATIONAL TRANSPORT COMMISSION (Road Transport Legislation-Australian Road Rules) Regulations 2006. Federal Register of Legislative Instruments F2006C00112. When a BICYCLE is fitted with the RH-01 it complies with the requirements to be classified under 'AB' vehicle catagory which, according to the Federal Register of Legislative Instruments F2005L03850 (Aust Design Rule Definitions & Vehicle Catagories) is described as; " A pedal cycle to which is attached one or more auxiliary propulsion motors having a combined maximum OUTPUT not exceeding 200Watts".
HOW CAN IT BE LESS THAN 200Watts ? CLICK HERE FOR INFO SHEET
All engine units are assembled & TESTED IN AUSTRALIA with quality components from Germany (bearings), Taiwan (case/internals) & Japan (carburettor).
ETHANOL BLENDED FUELS. Testing has finished on 'E10' fuels & we can confirm the RH-01 Hub Engine will run on 10% Ethanol Blended Fuels with no ill effect, nor any change to output power.
DID YOU KNOW The Sydney Power House Museum has one of our older motors in its collection ?

Features |
- All aluminium alloy 'monocase', with precision machined matched halves
- Industrial hard-chrome plated cylinder bore, which gives long-life & good abrasion resistance.
- 'Wet' centrifugal clutch unit contained within the crankcase not just for compactness, but also to increase clutch life via dissipating heat to incoming air mixture & lubrication via oil within air/fuel mix.
- Internal ' AUTOMATIC ' reduction transmission with over-running clutch unit, which means you can pedal the bike without the engine running with NO EXTRA RESISTANCE.
- Many components designed to address the difficult problem of engine vibration being transmitted to the bicycle frame, eg.. muffler-torque rod & forward damper, wheel spokes have all been designed to reduce transfer of vibration to the frame.
